Mission at UPC

We strive to act on our faith by serving those in need near and far. We contribute our funds and/or time to groups that demonstrate service to humanity in keeping with the spirit and teachings of Christ. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.

Christmas Joy Offering 

University Presbyterian Church donated $2277.20 to the Christmas Joy Offering in December.  Half the contributions raised each year goes to the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions and half goes to six designated Presbyterian Racial Ethnic Schools and Colleges.  You can find much more information at  www.pcusa.org/christmasjoy

Local Missions

Alternatives for Girls, Detroit: Vocational guidance, educational support, counseling, emergency shelter, street outreach services to homeless and high-risk girls and young women. We contribute funds.

Baldwin Center & Soup Kitchen: Emergency food and clothing service for the homeless and those in need. We contribute funds, donate goods, serve at the Soup Kitchen the second Saturday of each month, and provide other volunteer assistance as needed.

Barnabas Youth Opportunities Center- see Building For The Future Mission projects.

Community Housing Network- A nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing and housing resources to the homeless, those at risk of homelessness, people with disabilities, and others in need.  We have donated furniture and participate in the annual cleaning supply drive. 

Criminal Justice Ministry / Oakland Co. Jail Chaplaincy: An ecumenical organization providing spiritual services and support, as well as practical assistance, to Oakland County Jail inmates and their families. We contribute funds.

Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Open Door Ministry, Detroit: Help for the homeless: meals, clothing, and employment assistance. We contribute funds.

Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County, Rochester Coalition: Building homes in partnership with families who can't afford a conventional mortgage. We are a founding member of the Rochester Coalition, which consists of local churches and service groups. We contribute funds and volunteer labor to the annual house-building project.

Lighthouse of Oakland County: Food, clothing, and emergency assistance to families in need. This year we will participate in the annual "Fill-a-Van" food drive before Thanksgiving.

Presbytery of Detroit: Ministries and mission work throughout Metro Detroit (see the Presbytery web site for details). As a member of the Presbytery, we contribute a portion of our mission funds each year.

Rochester Area Neighborhood House: Clothing, food, financial, transportation and other services for those in emergency need in the Rochester area. Members of UPC serve on the Board of Directors. We contribute funds and collect food, clothing, school supplies and other items as needed throughout the year. National/International Mission

Disaster Relief: At the beginning of each year, we reserve funds to meet disasters or unexpected mission needs that may occur during the year, often through PC(USA)'s Presbyterian Disaster Assistance or Church World Service.  Special offerings of monies and goods are collected at times of greater needs. 

The Outreach Foundation: An organization founded by Presbyterians that provides missionaries and ministries to the needy and downtrodden around the world. We are contributing funds. Visit the Outreach Foundation web site to learn more.

Presbyterian Church (USA): Ministries and mission work throughout the U.S. and world (see the PC(USA) U.S. and World Mission web page for details). As a member of the national church, we contribute a portion of our mission funds each year.

Susie Frerich's Presbyterian Mission to the Huastecas, Mexico: Susie, formerly the U.S. Coordinator of Proyecto Amistad of the Presbyterian Border Ministry, will be helping build and strengthen Presbyterian churches in central Mexico. We contribute funds.

Synod of the Covenant: Ministries and mission work throughout Michigan and Ohio (see the Synod web site for details). As a member of the Synod, we contribute a portion of our mission funds each year.
