University Presbyterian Church. The Troop has proudly developed more than 75 Eagle Scouts, with many more to follow. We have an active program of camping, community service, training, and fun.

Boys between the ages of 11 and 17 may join the Troop any time during the year. They do not have to be members of UPC to join.

The Troop warmly welcomes new members and their families. We meet Tuesdays from September to June at 7:30 pm in Fellowship Hall at UPC. Please come visit with us any Tuesday evening! For more information, visit our web site at www.bsatroop188.com.

Church and Community Service

Behind the scenes, there are many small jobs the Scouts do for UPC, including property clean up. Over the years, Eagle Scout candidates have completed several projects that have enhanced the UPC grounds and facilities, as well as those of other local churches and non-profit organizations.

Other notable services provided by the Scouts include:

  • Regular participation in various church activities, such as the Autumn Festival (grilling, pumpkin-carving)
  • Cleaning up litter along Adams Road
  • Serving at the Baldwin Center Soup Kitchen in Pontiac each December
  • Designing, constructing, and presenting the Neighborhood House float at the annual Rochester Christmas Parade for the past two years

Boy Scouts of America (BSA)

Among the goals of the BSA is to develop personal values based on religious concepts.

  • The BSA has a chaplaincy program, selecting and training unit chaplains (adults) and chaplain aides (Boy Scouts).
  • The God and Country program series was developed to provide spiritual growth experiences.
  • The National Association of Presbyterian Scouters (NAPS) is a denominational association recognized by the BSA. NAPS provides representation with Programs for Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.).
