Meet Nina

Nina serves at our Bell Choir Director, bringing beauty through music and community here at University Presbyterian.

My Story

Nina has loved music, both instrumental and choral, all of her life. In her Bachelors degree in Education her major instruments were bassoon and piano. Later in her career, she received a 30 hour certificate in educational administration and worked for the last 9 of her 30 years, as an elementary principal, retiring from Southfield Public Schools.

From 2003 through 2017, she served as a music student teacher supervisor at Oakland University. She began as a church musician in 1970, serving Allen Park Presbyterian, Southfield Presbyterian, Dearborn First, and Cherry Hill Presbyterians as elementary choir and youth handbell director. For the last 25 years, she has enjoyed serving as handbell director here at University Presbyterian Church.

She played bassoon in various community orchestras since 1967 when she moved to the Detroit area from Indiana. She plays with the Detroit Medical Orchestra and Spectrum orchestras, as well as in several small chamber groups. Besides "Making a joyful noise unto the Lord", she enjoy flowers and perennial gardening at her home, as well as traveling. Nina has two children, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter who all live in other states.
